Preaching religious fanaticism
On Sunday, January 13th, 2013 the deposed former abbot and excommunicated Hieromonk Fr Spyridon Logothetis spoke to an event of the Associations of Friends of the Holy Transfiguration Monastery, and the video of his speech was posted on the internet.
The speech of Fr Spyridon Logothetis proves that the source of misinformation and the cause of fanaticism of the "Friends of the Monastery" is he himself.
Although the video is revealing, we note below some necessary comments for the information of Christians and in general of our fellow citizens.
1. Fr Spyridon Logothetis emerges as a preacher of religious fanaticism. He is shown at least as the instigator of nasty acts committed against the Church in our city lately, praising and thanking perpetrators he had in front of him.
2. Fr Spyridon Logothetis threatens the whole church and civil administration, from the Holy Synod to the Minister of Education, the Government and the President of the Republic: “Do they ignore the wrath of the people, that they will commit first the crime in Greece? I recommend and urge them not to do it!".
3. He invites people to group acts of rage, often using phrases containing direct or covert threats of violence.
4. He makes use of slanders against the Metropolitan, alleging that he claims money, and misleads the people supposedly speaking of vindication of the monastery by the Courts or the alleged audits showing excellent management of its finances.
5. He absolutely falsely claims "the Metropolitan asks 1,500,000 together with the lady, the wife of his driver." He deliberately avoids admitting that this is money demanded by the State from which in an opaque manner unlawfully he received them, as a VAT refund, as shown by repeated investigations of the VAT refund procedure carried out by the Tax Office and ratified by the Courts.
6.Finally, from a theological, an ecclesiastical and an ecclesiological point of view, his speech exposes him irretrievably, as it is full of theological and ecclesiological errors and has historical inaccuracies. The works of the Three Hierarchs and especially Basil the Great, which he cites, are "a consuming fire," a fire that burns as grass the monastic ideal of Fr Spyridon.
The release of the video of the speech by Fr Spyridon Logothetis causes grief, but is also a revelation, because it shows to all Christians and citizens of Nafpaktos the truth about the background of the work of the monastery, as well as the source and cause of the church turmoil. Fr Spyridon Logothetis indeed emerges as a preacher of religious fanaticism.
